John 1:14 (ESV)
[14] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Talk About It
Christmas is special because it celebrates God’s greatest gift: Jesus! This verse shows us something amazing—Jesus (called “the Word”) is God Himself, and He chose to become a human and live right here among us. Imagine the biggest, most important person you know coming to spend time with you just because He loves you! That’s even better than getting the best gift—because Jesus is the best gift. When it says He “dwelt among us,” it’s like God came and set up His home with people, just like He did in the Old Testament when He lived among His people in the tabernacle. But now, God came as a person—Jesus.
Jesus wasn’t just anybody; He showed God’s glory, grace, and truth perfectly. Some people didn’t understand or see how special Jesus was, but people who believe in Him see how wonderful He is! Just like you might get so excited about your favorite present you talk about it all the time, we can get excited about Jesus—God’s gift who came to live with us and save us. That’s the true reason we celebrate Christmas!
For Parents to Explain
Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to live with us and show us Your love. Help us remember that Jesus is the best gift of all. Amen.
Family Activities
Gift Box Surprise
- Get a small box and decorate it like a Christmas present together.
- Write “Jesus is God’s greatest gift!” and place it inside the box.
- Each family member shares one thing about Jesus that makes them thankful.
- Place the box somewhere special as a reminder all week.
Tabernacle Tent Time
- Use blankets or sheets to build a “tent” or fort in your living room.
- Once inside, read the anchor verse again.
- Talk together about how God “dwelt” (lived) among His people then—and now through Jesus!
- Pray inside the tent, thanking God for living with us.
Family Prayer
Now take turns thanking God for coming close to us at Christmas and ask Him to help you see how amazing His gift is.
