Hebrews 12:1 (ESV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Talk About It

Life can feel like a race that gets hard sometimes. The Bible reminds us of many heroes—like Moses, David, and Esther—who trusted God when things were tough. But our greatest hero is Jesus! He started our faith and makes it complete. Jesus went through hard times—even the cross—but He kept going because He knew joy was coming. God wants us to “run the race” by following Jesus, even when we’re tired, sad, or want to quit. We can let go of things that slow us down—like bad choices or worries—and keep our eyes on Jesus. He helps us keep going! When you feel like giving up, remember there are people cheering you on, and remember—Jesus is with you every step, helping you finish strong.

For Parents to Explain

Dear God, thank You for giving us Jesus as our hero and helper. Give us strength to keep trusting and following You when life is hard. Amen.

Family Activities

Hero Relay Race

  1. Set up a simple obstacle course or short race inside or outside.
  2. Each family member takes a turn running or walking while the others cheer!
  3. Talk about the “cloud of witnesses” in the Bible who cheer for us too.
  4. After the race, discuss how Jesus helps us keep going when things aren’t easy.

Lay It Down—Burden Bag

  1. Give each person a small bag or backpack and fill it with objects to represent worries or sins (like stones or toys).
  2. Walk around the room to notice how heavy it feels.
  3. One by one, take out an item, saying, “I give this to Jesus.”
  4. Talk about how Jesus helps us let go of things that slow us down.

Family Prayer

Share one thing that’s been hard lately, and pray for courage to keep going—looking to Jesus as your hero.
