Matthew 2:10 (ESV)
[10] When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
Talk About It
The magi—or wise men—traveled a long, difficult journey because they wanted to find and worship Jesus. When they finally saw the special star leading them to Jesus, they were filled with “great joy.” Picture how excited they must have felt! These were grown men from far away, and yet nothing mattered more than meeting Jesus. Their gifts were royal and valuable. But what mattered most was that their hearts were amazed by the child Jesus, and they worshiped Him with great joy.
Often, as people grow older, they can forget to be amazed by the wonderful things God does. The wise men remind us to never stop being in awe of Jesus. He is God’s greatest gift—the King of Kings! They didn’t let anything stop them from following God’s sign and honoring Jesus. This week, look for things God is doing all around you and let your heart be filled with joy, just like the wise men.
For Parents to Explain
Dear God, help us be filled with joy and wonder when we think about Jesus. Thank You for showing us Your love in such amazing ways. Amen.
Family Activities
Follow the Star Game
- Make a simple paper star and attach it to a stick or string.
- One person leads the family around the house with the "star."
- When you arrive at a final spot, celebrate together by singing a worship song or sharing something joyful about Jesus.
- Switch leaders and play again.
Awe & Wonder Walk
- Take a “wonder walk” inside or outside; look for things in God’s world that amaze you (like snowflakes, stars, or animals).
- As you walk, talk about how God created each thing you see.
- Pause to thank God for each wonderful thing and especially for sending Jesus.
- End with a prayer of thanksgiving.
Family Prayer
Now take turns telling God something about Jesus that fills you with joy or makes you want to worship Him.
